History & Setting the stage...

What was your goal when you originally signed up?
"My goal was to lose weight. I was getting very distressed because I used to be in shape and I was losing muscle tone. I wanted to be comfortable wearing something sleeveless. I was noticing that I had been losing muscle tone, because I was always working out in the past, and I felt over my normal weight."

Why was this important?
"I feel better about myself when I look good. Its everything. A little bit of vanity is actually healthy, and when you feel strong and you look good it changes you! It brings confidence into everything you do!"

How long had you had this goal?
"I had a life event happened and went into a tough time. I felt out of it for about 2 years, then I decided it was time to start back up!"

What were the top 1-2 things that held you back from achieving your goal?
"Figuring out how to get started and with who. Also, my lack of energy!"

What had you tried BEFORE, to get to your goal?
"I have had trainers in the past. I love the accountability and the structure with the schedule. It helps me be accountable, and because I am a very busy person, so making appointments with my trainer really helps me to stay on track."

Getting started...

How did you originally hear about us?
"I knew Melissa (from training with her years back) and that she had Green Rocks Fitness. What really got me is that I like the smaller “boutique” type of gym. It’s a more pleasant environment. It feels much more personal and you get better insights. In bigger gyms, you often change trainers and it’s not as personal. Here, you get more time with trainer and you have time to have a conversation with them. I also love the flexibility of training options and pricing. I appreciate the frank advice about the “real” way of getting healthy and what it takes to get results, unlike a lot of “UN-healthy” trends out there. Plus, I feel that I am getting just the right level of pressure from the team. They are making me accountable, but are very flexible and adaptable to my busy lifestyle."

What originally prompted you to seek us out?
"I had a great experience training with Melissa in the past. Also, I knew she was getting into a more holistic approach with GRF, including nutrition, lifestyle, sleep, etc. which I know are very important as well!"

Were you already exercising at the time you enrolled? What was your previous background in fitness?
"No, not consistently. I wasn’t following any program then, but I had worked with trainers in the past."

When you originally signed up what was your first goal?
"Lose some weight, get my muscle tone back and feel better!"

Were you more driven to solve a problem or achieve a goal?
"Absolutely! I felt a sense of relief as soon as I joined!"

How were you feeling at that time you enrolled?
"Again, a great sense of relief, and I felt like I would make good progress from there."

Now...

How do you feel now?
"100% better! I see dramatic changes. I feel like I have twice the energy than when I started, and it feels REALLY good! As I watch older adults I begin to understand the importance of taking care of yourself as you age, and I value health even more."

How do you feel about the future?
"Very good, very optimistic."

What do you love the most about GRF?
"It’s personalized to me and my goals, based on where I am and where I want to get. The programs are very individualized. I love the education component and that there are lot of avenues for educational stuff such as emails, the Facebook private group, text messages, handouts, workshops, etc. I appreciate how it is easy to communicate with the team. I got a wanky schedule, but the fact that my trainer is very flexible, even when I lack motivation at times, the structure really helps and I find it very valuable. The training attention with huge emphasize on the quality of movement and form. I get a lot of motivation from my trainer, and of course, it’s even more when you see the results! One of the best component is the assessment! For me, its HUGE because it really helps you identify where you are (with actual data and numbers) and the fact that we reassess regularly keeps you even more accountable. Plus, the scale is not the only number. The different assessments are very important to understand for how you are making progress. You can see how you get stronger, your muscles are developing, and things are improving even if your actual weight doesn’t come off!"

What would you say to someone who is just starting out or looking to start?
"You must take the first step! Things won’t change overnight. Commit yourself, set reasonable goals and you’ll succeed. Personally, for me, I would also say “Don’t waste your time. If you want to change, you need to commit at least 3 times a week!”
